Our Story
Southport Gold started the way most good things do — with a passion and a bit of curiosity.
I keep bees myself, and it was giving jars of honey to family and friends — and watching their reaction — that first made me think there could be a business here. I love everything about beekeeping: the patience it requires, the extraordinary work of the bees themselves, the satisfaction of a good harvest. But one hive only produces so much.
So Southport Gold is built on an honest foundation. I source raw honey and pure beeswax from reputable UK wholesalers who supply quality, natural product from Ukraine. I jar and label the honey myself here in Southport, and I hand-pour every candle in my own workshop using 100% pure beeswax. Everything is made by hand, in small batches, with care and attention to quality.
It’s not a factory. It’s a beekeeper with a workshop and a genuine love for what bees produce — and a belief that people deserve honest, natural products they can trust.
What Makes Our Honey Different
Most supermarket honey has been heat-treated and ultra-filtered to give it a long shelf life and a uniform appearance. That process removes much of what makes honey genuinely good for you.
Our honey is different. It’s sourced through reputable UK wholesalers who supply raw, unfiltered Ukrainian honey, and we jar it ourselves here in Southport. We sell two distinct varieties — a bright, delicate Wildflower honey with a gently floral character, and a richer, darker Buckwheat honey with a more robust, distinctive flavour that works beautifully in cooking as well as on its own.
Raw honey may crystallise over time — that’s a sign of quality, not a fault. A gentle warm water bath will return it to a runny consistency if you prefer it that way.
Our Beeswax Candles
Beeswax is one of nature’s most remarkable materials. It burns cleanly with no toxic by-products, and it emits a faint, natural honey fragrance that synthetic candles simply can’t replicate.
Our candle range goes well beyond the ordinary. Alongside classic honeycomb pillar candles and traditional skep beehive candles, we produce an ever-growing collection of sculptural designs: dragons, elephants, dolphins, horses and unicorns, angels, giraffes, Highland cattle, alpacas, teddy bears, dinosaurs — and more. Each one is cast and hand-poured in small batches using 100% pure beeswax.
They make exceptional gifts. But we’ve also noticed people buy them and then find it very hard to light them — which we take as a compliment.

We think honesty matters — especially when it comes to food. So here’s what Southport Gold actually is: a beekeeper with a workshop, a genuine passion for natural products, and a hands-on approach to everything we make.

We’re registered as a food business with Sefton Council and hold a 5-star Food Hygiene Rating from the Food Standards Agency.
